Recruitment is coming up fast and you may already be preparing your outfits, but you don’t want to forget about the bag you’re going to be bringing with you every day! Anything and everything can happen during recruitment and you want to be prepared! Here are some of the things I had in my bag when I was going through recruitment and what some of my friends had that was helpful as well! Makeup! Powder + brush Eyelash curler Lip gloss Concealer (extra if you want to touch up during the day!) Blush (extra if you want to touch up during the day!) Mini mirror Toiletries for touch-ups! Dry shampoo Mini deodorant Perfume (!!!!) Blotting sheets Chapstick Mini hairbrush (!!!!!) Hairspray Listerine strips/mints (have a mint before each party!) Extra Items for mishaps! Fashion tape Tide stick (in case of a food spill!) Extra earring backs Blister patches/bandaids (if you’re wearing heels this will be a lifesaver!) Portable charger + cord Advil Hand sanitizer Floss sticks Helpful items! Slides (if you want to change out of your heels in between parties) Water bottle (stay hydrated!!!) Mini notebook and pen (write down notes after each party, it’ll be so helpful later on!) Mini fan (it’s hot outside!) Rain jacket/umbrella Snacks A small towel to sit on (if you’re sitting on the ground outside, you don’t want to ruin your outfit!) Now you don’t really need every single one of these things in your bag during recruitment, otherwise, it would be so heavy to carry around! Just bring what you think you need and update it day by day! Taking out what you don’t need and aren’t using is a good way to lighten up your bag day by day! Recruitment is a tiring but fun process! Make sure you’re really getting to understand what each house is about as you go through the parties so you can make the most informed decision when bid day comes! Don’t forget to have fun though! You can make a ton of friends even before joining a sorority through recruitment! Heading off to college for the first time is such a fun but scary time in your life. So all of these women have been in your shoes and know exactly what you’re feeling and what can possibly help you feel just a little bit better and more comfortable in your new college town! “I would say try to be open-minded and say yes to everything! It never hurts to try something new! I was super lost my freshmen year and wanted to find a community and UTees was just that! Becoming a CM has been life-changing and I’ve made so many amazing relationships with so many people! I know coming from high school sometimes it is scary to get out of your comfort zone and try new things, but I promise it is worth it. I met some of my closest friends from going to things that got me out of my shell and I am so grateful that I did. Remember so many people are in the same boat as you and want to have the best college experience possible. Also! Get involved on campus. If there is one thing I regret from my college years, it is not being as involved on my campus. No matter what college you go to, there is a lot to be a part of and so much to learn, so make sure you take any opportunity you can to get involved.” - Abby Fletcher, BDL Intern “I was an incoming freshman during covid lockdown so my experiences are probably very different than anything now but a good tip would probably be to have a super “roomy” dorm that you feel comfortable in. decorating it with plants, posters, pictures of friends and family, anything that brings you joy!” - Mary Gunnett, Creative Marketing Intern “Starting as a freshman can be extremely intimidating, especially going to a school not knowing anyone! They are wanting to find a place just like you are, so don’t be afraid to approach someone in the dining hall or knock on your neighbor’s door! Living in Florida, I happen to go to the beach more often than the average person, which is amazing! This also means that the items in my beach bag, I have down to a science. Over the years, I’ve curated the perfect beach bag for myself and I like to think that it’s not too much stuff, but it’s not too little that I feel like I’m missing things once I get there! Here’s the items in my beach bag! A good book or my Kindle! This one is a recent addition, since I’ve gotten more into reading in the past year. I love heading to the beach with a good book to read while I’m tanning! A smaller bag that has my sunscreen, post tanning lotion and chapstick with SPF in it! It’s so important to wear sunscreen every time you go to the beach and you’re going to be in the sun. A sunburn is not very fun and it’s also not very good for your skin either. I also use the Maui Babe after sun lotion and this is my holy grail, if you are sunburned, this gets rid of the burn in a day or two. It’s my favorite item in my beach bag! A beach towel (or two)! For me, it depends on the day whether I bring one or two towels. I have a bigger towel that I like to lay out on and if I know I want to go in the water that day, I’ll bring an extra to dry myself off with and to sit on in the car ride home! A hat! I always bring a hat with me to the beach in case I get tired of wearing sunglasses or I just want to cover my face more from the sun! The trucker hats from UTees are amazing for this! Sunglasses! Sunglasses are a necessity when going to the beach! Whether you’re using them as a prop for your photos or while tanning, they’ll definitely be used no matter what you do! Summer seems to be everyone’s favorite season. The weather is nicer, most people are out of school and you get to do whatever your heart desires!
