Alpha Epsilon Phi, also known as AEPhi is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). AEPhi is a Jewish sorority that works to help women become the best versions of themselves. Alpha Epsilon Phi History Alpha Epsilon Phi was founded on October 24th, 1909 at Barnard College. Their founders, seven Jewish women had a goal to provide a home away from home for its members. What is Alpha Epsilon Phi's Philanthropy? In its early years, AEPhi focused on helping Jewish war sufferers, scholarships for those who needed them and support for education. Today, Alpha Epsilon Phi two national philanthropies are Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Sharsheret, an organization that provides support for Jewish women battling breast and ovarian cancer. Alpha Delta Pi, commonly referred to as ADPi, is a part of the National Panhellenic Conference. Sisterhood is an extremely important aspect of sorority life for Alpha Delta Pi chapters. Events will be held for sisters to get to know each other better and form everlasting friendships. The four points of Alpha Delta Pi's diamond symbolize strengthening character and personality, watching attitudes toward fellow beings, recognizing the value of high educational standards, and developing faith and loyalty. Alpha Delta Pi's History Alpha Delta Pi is the oldest sorority in the United States, being the eighth largest sorority in the country . Elizabeth Moseley Coles, who was elected national president at the first Grand Convention, was responsible for having the coat of arms designed. Another sister of the Alpha chapter, Agnes Chapman, is given credit for the actual design. Symbolism from their ritual and Alpha pin were combined in the coat of arms, and the design originally had a background of violets. In 1919, the convention body voted to make changes and the present design was accepted. ADPi was founded on May 15, 1851 at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia! What is Alpha Delta Pi's Philanthropy? Alpha Delta Pi has partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities since 1979. There are over 375 Ronald McDonald Houses in 62 countries around the world. These houses provide a space for families with seriously ill or injured children to stay close to the medical facility. Chapters help by getting donations during philanthropy events and by spending their time volunteering at these Houses. Since the sorority’s partnership with the organization, Alpha Delta Pi has contributed more than $17,000,000. During the 2020-2021 academic year, Alpha Delta Pi contributed   $903,698 to charitable organizations, including more than $860,000 to local Ronald McDonald House Charities Chapters across the United States and Canada. Alpha Delta Pi greatly values this partnership and long-standing relationship.  The Alpha Delta Pi Foundation is another key component of the sorority’s philanthropic efforts. It works in partnership with the Ronald McDonald House Charities. As part of the We Believe… Campaign , the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation established the Ronald McDonald House Charities Endowment. This fund allows the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation to provide even more resources to RMHC worldwide. The foundation also helps provide chapter members with educational, leadership, and philanthropic activities. These serve to improve the lives of women and the communities in which they serve. Alpha Chi Omega History Alpha Chi Omega was founded at DePaw University on October 15, 1885. Inspired by their professor, seven female students were inspired and encouraged to form a women's society within the university. Alpha Chi Omega was the 10th women's fraternity in the country, but the first to be in a music school. The founders chose "Alpha" and "Omega" as they are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. In the middle, they chose "Kai," meaning "and" which later changed to the Greek letter "Chi." The women who founded the sorority did so because there was no inclusive organization for them. These women include: Dorothy Cohen Schwartzman, Minna Goldsmith Mahler, Sylvia Steierman Cohn, Ida Bienstock Landau and Eve Effron Robin. What is Delta Phi Epsilon's Philanthropy? Delta Phi Epsilon supports The National Association for Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD). DPhiE committed to ANAD in 1985 and is the first chapter to do so. They believed what mattered was who a person was, not what they looked like, and felt as though this was best reflected in ANAD. Members of DPhiE advocate for healthy attitudes towards bodies and behaviors on their campuses each day. Delta Phi Epsilon is also committed to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). In 1957 a DPhiE member, Phyllis Kossoff, shared her experience with Cystic Fibrosis, and since then members have supported CFF. DPhiE has donated over $1 million to research with hopes of finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis! Delta Gamma’s philanthropy promotes Service for Sight, which supports the five schools founded by Delta Gamma’s for the visually impaired. Service for Sight also supports North American organizations that work towards sight preservation and conservation. This philanthropy was put into place in 1936 when a blind member, Ruth Billow, advocated for aid to the blind. Kappa Alpha Theta, also known as Theta is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). Theta strives to nurture its members throughout their lifetime through opportunities for personal and intellectual growth. Throughout lifelong sisterhood, Kappa Alpha Theta leads each member to personal excellence. Theta values scholarship, service, leadership, personal excellence, and friendship/sisterhood. Kappa Alpha Theta History Bettie Locke was the daughter of a professor at Indiana Asbury, and one of the first females to be enrolled at the school in 1867. During this time, females were excluded from clubs or societies on campus. Despite this, she and other women thrived in her studies and proceeded to push the status quo. After a fraternity member asked Bettie to wear his Greek letters, but not allowing her to join the organization, Bettie decided to create a Greek organization for women on her campus. She asked her fellow student Alice Allen to help make this dream a reality. The following fall, Bettie and Alice worked to create a badge, bylaws and constitution for this organization. They searched for women with like values as them; women of outstanding character and who work to strive academically. They found Hannah Fitch and Bettie Tipton and invited them to join. As a group of four, the first official meeting of Kappa Alpha Theta was held in 1870. Kappa Alpha Theta celebrates it's Founder's Day on January 27th! What is Kappa Alpha Theta's Philanthropy? Theta's national philanthropy is CASA/GAL, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate and Guardian Ad Litem. CASA/GAL believes that every child should have a kind and qualified adult advocating for them. They advocate for their them to have a safe home, establish permanence and provide that child with opportunities to strive. Each year, Kappa Alpha Theta chapters host philanthropy events to support CASA/GAL. These fundraising dollars go directly to the non-profit. In addition to monetary donations, Thetas donate their time and talents to the organization to help the children involved. The group offers physical fitness, tutoring, mentoring, and support that empowers and teaches girls important life skills. It provides girls with many opportunities to be involved in their community. Girls on the Run hosts 5K races at elementary and middle schools for girls to participate in. Chapters will help by volunteering and supporting these races through their philanthropic initiatives. Chapters across the nation will also host Moonball philanthropy events to raise awareness and donations for Girls on the Run. This event is usually a kickball, basketball, or volleyball event chapters will host to promote Building Strong Girls.
