All About Kappa Kappa Gamma

Kappa Kappa Gamma is a sorority within the National Panhellenic Conference. Kappa Kappa Gamma is commonly referred to as Kappa. Sisterhood is a very important aspect of Kappa. Members of the sorority network with each other to form life long bonds. Their mission is, “We unite women to learn, grow, and inspire positive change throughout their lives.” Sisters will live by this mission and the six main values it inspires. They include: truth, connection, respect, optimism, knowledge, and trailblazing. Kappa Kappa Gamma is very social and philanthropic. The organization aims to prioritize mental health and wellness. Members are often referred to as “Classy Kappas” which means they are respectable and held to a higher standard. Some famous Kappa sisters include: Sophia Bush, Kate Spade, and Meghan Markle. Therefore, Potential New Members are often very excited to receive a bid from Kappa.

The organization was founded at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois on October 13, 1870!

What is Kappa Kappa Gamma's Philanthropy

Kappa strives to inspire positive change, mental health and well-being and these three aspects are their new philanthropic focus. Kappa Kappa Gamma Nationals has partnered with the following non-profit mental health organizations since August 2021:

  • Active Minds

  • The Jed Foundation

  • Mental Health America

  • The National Alliance on Mental Illness

  • The National Eating Disorder Association

  • Jack.org


Chapters are allowed to choose which of these organizations to support through their philanthropic efforts on campus. Donations and education support these efforts and benefit the community. 


Active Minds makes it their mission to end the silence and change the culture around mental health. The organization helps to spread awareness and educate the next generation on mental health. Active Minds is the leading nonprofit in the United States with this mission. 


The Jed Foundation is a nonprofit with the focus on protecting emotional health. The organization aims to prevent suicide within teens and young adults. JED partners eith schools and colleges to increase programming, services, and systems related to mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention. Strengthening programs related to this mission helps equip teens and young adults with the skills and knowledge to help themselves and one another. Increasing community awareness, understanding, and action for young adult mental health is a main priority of JED. 


Mental Health America is a nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those who live with mental illness. MHA works to promote the overall mental health of all. Their work is driven by their commitment to promote mental health as a critical part of overall wellness. 


National Alliance on Mental Illness provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness. This is in an effort to support all individuals and families affected by mental illness and to help them build better lives. 


National Eating Disorders Association is dedicated to supporting individuals and families who have been affected by eating disorders. NEDA provides support and serves as a catalyst for prevention, cures, and access to quality care. 


Jack.org is Canada’s only charity that focuses on training and empowering young leaders to revolutionize mental health. The organization focuses on education through talks, chapters, and summits that help attendees think more positively about mental health.

There are currently 144 active chapters in the United States with over 220,000 initiated members.


Kappa's are most prevalent at University of Southern California, University of Alabama, University of Colorado Boulder, and Florida State University.
