Theta Phi Alpha is one of the 26 sororities that make up the National Panhellenic Conference. The sorority is also commonly referred to as Theta Phi. Sisterhood is extremely important to Theta Phi members. Networking with other women within the chapter allows members to make everlasting bonds and lifelong friendships. Philanthropy is one of Theta Phi Alpha’s largest values. A motto Theta Phi has is, “A Theta Phi Alpha engages in philanthropic efforts to help those less fortunate than herself.” The sorority’s philanthropic efforts play a key role in all aspects of membership. Theta Phi Alpha's History Theta Phi was originally founded as a Catholic sorority and has now opened up its membership to all women. Theta Phi Alpha was founded at the University of Michigan on August 30, 1912! What is Theta Phi Alpha's Philanthropy? Theta Phi Alpha chapters support three philanthropies. They include Camp Friendship, The House That Theta Phi Alpha Built, and Glenmary Home Missioners. Chapters will volunteer, participate in service projects, collect donations, and even host philanthropy events on campus to support these causes.  Camp Friendship, located in Mississippi, was formed to help disadvantaged children develop skills in teamwork, create friendships, and helps to promote a sense of self worth through personal accomplishment. Theta Phi members can even volunteer at the two week long summer camp. Chapters will help support Camp Friendship by donating money raised from their philanthropy events.  The House That Theta Phi Alpha Built was established in 1993 in an effort to help the homeless. The main goal is to improve the plight of the homeless through providing aid to shelters, home building, and neighborhood revitalization projects. Overall, this organization allows sorority members to be given the opportunity to help those in need within their local community.  Theta Phi Alpha’s hiscotical philanthropy is Glenmary Home Missioners. It helps to support residents living in rural Appalachia through the distribution of clothes, food, and books. Volunteers also help provide residents with medical care, job training, and tutoring. Chapters of Tri Sigma place a large emphasis on sisterhood. Sigma Sigma Sigma's History The sorority was founded on April 20, 1898 at Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia! What is Sigma Sigma Sigma's Philanthropy? The March of Dimes is Tri Sigma’s national philanthropic partner. Tri Sigma has partnered with the March of Dimes for over 60 years in a partnership known as Sigmas Serving Children. Since the beginning of the partnership, Tri Sigma has donated over $3 million dollars to help fund research and prevention of polio. Through supporting this cause, thousands of families with a newborn in intensive care were provided comfort and education through the NICU Family Support and millions of parents as well as health professionals have been able to improve babies’ health.  Another main focus of Tri Sigma’s philanthropic efforts is the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation. The foundation supports programs that align with the sorority’s five main values and raises funds for leadership training for women. The foundation helps to support the sorority’s partnership with the March of Dimes through Sigma Serves Children. These grants help hospitals create life-enhancing therapeutic play and child life programs as well as other necessary facilities across the country. Sigma Delta Tau, also known as Sig Delt and SDT is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). SDT strives to emphasize the bonds sisters form with each other and the life long friendships made. Throughout lifelong sisterhood, Sigma Delta Tau leads each member to meaningful connections. SDT values academic achievement, building leadership skills, philanthropic work, and building lifelong friendships. Sigma Delta Tau History SDT was founded by seven jewish women who were discriminated against by many other Greek organizations at the time. While the sorority is no longer only for jewish women, the premise in which the chapter was founded is still a very big part of every chapter. Sigma Delta Tau focuses on empowering women and chapters are known for their strong and powerful women. The sorority was established at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, becoming founded on March 25th in 1917! What is Sigma Delta Tau's Philanthropy? Nationally, Sigma Delta Tau focuses on two main philanthropic partners. They are Prevent Child Abuse America and Jewish Women International. Throughout the semester, chapters will host numerous different events and fundraisers to support these organizations.  SDT has partnered with Prevent Child Abuse America for the past 40 years. PCAA focuses on helping parents, caregivers, and communities to create safe environments for children. This is done through numerous different programs, education, research and advocacy efforts. In April, Sigma Delta Tau chapters support the core fundraising initiative for PCAA, Pinwheels for Prevention. Chapters will sell and display pinwheels on campus to help raise awareness and money for the cause. Over the past 35 years, more than $3 million has been raised by chapters during their pinwheel projects.  Jewish Women International is Sigma Delta Tau’s second national philanthropy. It helps chapters across the nation with prevention programming to facilitate stronger and safer Greek communities. It’s main goal is to educate students on sexual assault and dating violence prevention. JWI also supports domestic violence shelters. The organization has built over 100 children’s libraries with furniture, toys, computers, and books in an effort to create a safe space for young victims of violence. Chapters of Sigma Delta Tau who raise over $2,500 will be honored with a bookplate inside each book sent to domestic violence shelters. Chapters of Sigma Delta Tau will host a philanthropy event usually during the spring semester to support their national philanthropic partners. Pi Beta Phi, also commonly referred to as Pi Phi, is one of the 26 sororities that make up the National Panhellenic Conference. Sisterhood is very important to members of Pi Phi. Chapters host many events to help sisters form friendships and network with one another. The sorority’s values include: integrity, lifelong commitment, honor and respect, personal and intellectual growth, philanthropic service to others, and sincere friendship. Pi Beta Phi's History Pi Beta Phi is well known for being the women's fraternity modeled after men’s organizations. On April 28, 1867 at Monmouth College, 12 women came together to form Pi Beta Phi! What is Pi Beta Phi's Philanthropy? Pi Beta Phi focuses on inspiring the lifelong love of reading. 1 in 4 children grow up illiterate, and the sorority is working to change that. As a result of these efforts, the sorority formed the Read > Lead > Achieve® program. This is an effort to help create a more literate and productive society. Champions are Readers is a program Pi Beta Phi partners with in order to support their initiatives. The program is an effort to help students in pre-k through third grade receive the reading enrichment they need. Pi Phi also hosts Ou Signature Events, where volunteers in major cities across the country help to distribute new books to children in need.  The Pi Beta Phi Foundation also supports this cause through the formation of the Literacy Fund. Grants from the foundation have helped to fund Pi Phi’s Read > Lead > Achieve® programs and events.  Advocacy is a key component of Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic efforts. Members continually advocate for creating a more literate society. Chapters will celebrate Read > Lead > Achieve® month in September to show their support for the cause. Phi Sigma Sigma places a large emphasis on sisterhood and forming bonds with others, therefore chapters will host many events to bring chapter members together. The twin ideals of Phi Sigma Sigma are the brotherhood of man and the alleviation of the world’s pains. Phi Sig has six core values which are: friendship, faith, love, sincerity, integrity, and strength. Phi Sigma Sigma's History Phi Sigma Sigma was founded on November 26, 1913, at Hunter College in New York City by 10 progressive young women who shared a passion for excellence and envisioned an inclusive sisterhood! In 1913, the founders of Phi Sigma Sigma had the goal of starting a sorority that would promote open membership to all women of character regardless of background. They wanted a sorority that strived to achieve outstanding scholastic ideals and maintain high social standards, while embracing diversity in membership. What is Phi Sigma Sigma's Philanthropy? The main focus of Phi Sigma Sigma’s philanthropic efforts is to empower women to aim higher. This is done through forming relationships, providing financial resources, achieving excellence, and changing the world for the better. The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation helps to achieve this vision and mission. On November 15, 1969, the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation was formally incorporated.  To support the foundation, chapters will host a Sapphire Ball. The money raised helps to  support sisters’ academic success as well as children attending school in the surrounding communities. Other philanthropy events many chapters host during the school year include: backpack drives, school supply drives, volunteering in local schools as guest readers. Many sisters will even volunteer as extra staff to help out on days with a lot of extra activities happening where teachers may need help, such as days where there are holiday parties or other school celebrations. The Circle of Sisterhood School Build is one of Phi Sigma Sigma’s foundation partners. In 2019, the sorority fundraised to build two schools in Guatemala. The project reinforces Phi Sigma Sigma’s philanthropic focus on school and college readiness. Current chapter women as well as alumnae had the opportunity to volunteer to build these schools.  Another foundation partner is the Kids in Need Foundation. This foundation helps to ensure every child is prepared to learn and succeed. Free school supplies are donated to students who are most in need. KINF has created numerous programs to support children in their academic success as well. They include: the creation of a national network of resource centers, a program that brings supplies to kids who don;t live near resource centers, and a program that helps kids recover from fear, anxiety, and the sense of loss after natural disasters. Members of Phi Sigma Sigma can volunteer to help with these programs and efforts. Phi Sigma Sigma Chapters There are 150 Phi Sig chapters founded at universities across the nation. 115 of those 150 chapters are active today and there are over 60,000 lifetime members of the sorority. Phi Mu is one of the 26 sororities that make up the National Panhellenic Conference. Phi Mu places a large emphasis on personal and academic development, service to others, and lifelong friendships. Nationwide, Phi Mu chapters are typically social and studious, and prioritize service and friendship. Phi Mu's History Three junior women came together on January 4, 1852 at Wesleyan College to lay the foundation for the Philomathean Society. After months of gathering members and creating a constitution, the Philomathean Society was officially introduced to the Wesleyan campus and observed March 4, 1852 as their founders day! After years of success at Wesleyan College, the Philomathean Society developed a strong sisterhood of alumnae with rich tradition, giving them the confidence to expand into a national organization, known today as Phi Mu. What is Phi Mu's Philanthropy? Phi Mu is the only sorority to partner with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and to have an alliance with the National Women’s History Museum. In addition, Phi Mu was the first Panhellenic sorority to establish a National Philanthropy Day. Since Phi Mu’s partnership began with CMNH in 1986, the organization has raised over $19 million through philanthropy events and alumnae relations.
