Delta Phi Epsilon, also commonly referred to as DPhiE, is one of the 26 sororities that make up the National Panhellenic Conference. Members of Delta Phi Epsilon are commonly known for their trailblazing, courageous, and bright individuals. DPhiE values justice and making their voices heard no matter the situation. Members uplift one another and are bound by their love for each other and their communities. Delta Phi Epsilon's History DPhiE was founded on March 17, 1917 at New York University School of Law! The women who founded the sorority did so because there was no inclusive organization for them. These women include: Dorothy Cohen Schwartzman, Minna Goldsmith Mahler, Sylvia Steierman Cohn, Ida Bienstock Landau and Eve Effron Robin. What is Delta Phi Epsilon's Philanthropy? Delta Phi Epsilon supports The National Association for Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD). DPhiE committed to ANAD in 1985 and is the first chapter to do so. They believed what mattered was who a person was, not what they looked like, and felt as though this was best reflected in ANAD. Members of DPhiE advocate for healthy attitudes towards bodies and behaviors on their campuses each day. Delta Phi Epsilon is also committed to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). In 1957 a DPhiE member, Phyllis Kossoff, shared her experience with Cystic Fibrosis, and since then members have supported CFF. DPhiE has donated over $1 million to research with hopes of finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis! Delta Phi Epsilon Chapters With 109 active chapters and 16 alumnae groups of DPhiE, there are over 75,000 initiated members! Alpha Gamma Delta's History Alpha Gamma Delta is well known for their impact on communities and contribution to the world's work, specifically fighting hunger. On May 30, 1904 at Syracuse University, 11 progressive and influential women came together to form Alpha Gamma Delta! These 11 women include: Ethel Evelyn Brown Distin, Flora Knight Mayer, Georgia Alberta Dickover, Estelle Shepard Beswick, Emily Helen Butterfield, Edith MacConnell Hickok, Georgia Otis Chipman, Grace Mosher Harter, Mary Louise Snider, Jennie Titus Smith Morris and Marguerite Shepard. What is Alpha Gamma Delta's Philanthropy? Alpha Gamma Delta’s philanthropy focuses on fighting hunger. As partners of Feeding America and Meals on Wheels, Alpha Gam’s are able to provide national awareness, as well as local awareness where the chapters are located. Alpha Gam's have the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, which provides fighting hunger grants to many different organizations that contribute to fighting hunger in their local communities. Alpha Gam's understand hunger affects the communities where we are placed , and therefore is devoted to making a difference. Alpha Gamma Delta Chapters With 199 active chapters and over 90 alumnae chapters nationwide, there are over 212,000 initiated members of Alpha Gamma Delta. Supporting the personal growth of women is very important to members of AXiD. The sorority values sisterhood, leadership, knowledge, and service to communities. Alpha Xi Delta strives to enrich each member's life, through unity and cooperation; professional, intellectual and personal growth; high ethical behavior; community responsibility; and fraternal growth. Alpha Xi Delta's History Alpha Xi Delta founders instilled the importance of education because it frees us to achieve our goals and be who we want to be. They emphasized supporting one another through shared experiences and helping better the lives of the less fortunate. AXiD was founded on April 17, 1893 at Lombard College! The 10 women who helped found this chapter are: Cora Bollinger Block, Alice Bartlett Bruner, Almira Lowry Cheney, Frances Elisabeth Cheney, Bertha Cook Evans, Eliza Drake Curtis Everton, Julia Maude Foster, Lucy W. Gilmer, Harriet Luella McCollum and Lewie Strong Taylor. What is Alpha Xi Delta's Philanthropy? Alpha Xi Delta’s philanthropy focuses on supporting children and youth experiencing foster care or homelessness, referenced as the The Kindly Hearts Initiative. The key organizations that AXiD works with are FosterClub and StandUp for Kids, as well as local organizations in each chapter's community. Some philanthropic events that Alpha Xi Delta holds are Letters of Love where members tell their stories on why they choose to support The Kindly Hearts Initiative. Each chapter hosts the AmaXIng Challenge, and several other events within their local community organizations. Alpha Xi Delta Chapters With 125 active chapters of AXiD, there are over 171,000 initiated members! Creating a space for women to have a safe and empowering community on campuses is extremely important to DG’s, through a belonging culture, empowerment, and putting purpose to practice. Members practice high ideals of friendship, education and cultural interests, social responsibility, and good character. Delta Gamma's History Delta Gamma was founded on December 25, 1873 at The Lewis School for Girls in Oxford, Mississippi! The three founding women include: Anna Boyd Ellington, Eva Webb Dodd and Mary Comfort Leonard. What is Delta Gamma's Philanthropy? Delta Gamma’s philanthropy promotes Service for Sight, which supports the five schools founded by Delta Gamma’s for the visually impaired. Service for Sight also supports North American organizations that work towards sight preservation and conservation. This philanthropy was put into place in 1936 when a blind member, Ruth Billow, advocated for aid to the blind. Delta Gamma Chapters With 150 active chapters and 200 alumnae groups of DG, there are over 250,000 initiated members! Kappa Alpha Theta, also known as Theta is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). Theta strives to nurture its members throughout their lifetime through opportunities for personal and intellectual growth. Throughout lifelong sisterhood, Kappa Alpha Theta leads each member to personal excellence. Theta values scholarship, service, leadership, personal excellence, and friendship/sisterhood. Kappa Alpha Theta History Bettie Locke was the daughter of a professor at Indiana Asbury, and one of the first females to be enrolled at the school in 1867. During this time, females were excluded from clubs or societies on campus. Despite this, she and other women thrived in her studies and proceeded to push the status quo. After a fraternity member asked Bettie to wear his Greek letters, but not allowing her to join the organization, Bettie decided to create a Greek organization for women on her campus. She asked her fellow student Alice Allen to help make this dream a reality. The following fall, Bettie and Alice worked to create a badge, bylaws and constitution for this organization. They searched for women with like values as them; women of outstanding character and who work to strive academically. They found Hannah Fitch and Bettie Tipton and invited them to join. As a group of four, the first official meeting of Kappa Alpha Theta was held in 1870. Kappa Alpha Theta celebrates it's Founder's Day on January 27th! What is Kappa Alpha Theta's Philanthropy? Theta's national philanthropy is CASA/GAL, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate and Guardian Ad Litem. CASA/GAL believes that every child should have a kind and qualified adult advocating for them. They advocate for their them to have a safe home, establish permanence and provide that child with opportunities to strive. Each year, Kappa Alpha Theta chapters host philanthropy events to support CASA/GAL. These fundraising dollars go directly to the non-profit. In addition to monetary donations, Thetas donate their time and talents to the organization to help the children involved. Kappa Alpha Theta Chapters Theta has chapters at 141 college campuses across the United States. They also have over 200 alumnae groups across the US and Canada! Alpha Sigma Alpha, also known as Alpha Sig is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). Alpha Sig places a strong emphasis on sisterhood, leadership, heritage and service. Alpha Sigma Alpha fosters friendships between its members. Alpha Sig inspires the women who are a part of its organization to make a difference in the world while also being leaders. Alpha Sigma Alpha History Alpha Sig was founded at the Female Normal School in Farmville, Virginia on November 15, 1901. Alpha Sig's founders were five women who had become very close friends during their time at the university. Each founder actually received invitations to the other sororities on campus, but they decided to create their own! Alpha Sigma Alpha stated in its original charter, " The purpose of the association shall be to cultivate friendship among its members, and in every way to create pure and elevating sentiments, to perform such deeds and to mold such opinions as will tend to elevate and ennoble womanhood in the world.” from alphasigmaalpha.org Alpha Sigma Alpha celebrates it's Founder's Day on November 15th! What is Alpha Sigma Alpha's Philanthropy? Gamma Phi's national philanthropic partner is Girls on the Run which is pivotal in helping to Build Strong Girls. The group offers physical fitness, tutoring, mentoring, and support that empowers and teaches girls important life skills. It provides girls with many opportunities to be involved in their community. Girls on the Run hosts 5K races at elementary and middle schools for girls to participate in. Chapters will help by volunteering and supporting these races through their philanthropic initiatives. Chapters across the nation will also host Moonball philanthropy events to raise awareness and donations for Girls on the Run. This event is usually a kickball, basketball, or volleyball event chapters will host to promote Building Strong Girls. Alpha Sigma Alpha Chapters Alpha Sigma Alpha has over 50 active alumnae chapters and associations across the country. There are over 175 active collegiate Alpha Sig chapters. There are also over 120,000 initiated Alpha Sigma Alpha members throughout the organization's years!
