All About Kappa Delta

Kappa Delta, also known as KD is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). KD strives to provide confidence building experience for their women and provide them with lifelong friendships. Kappa Delta values academics, developing leadership skills, and being responsible citizens to take action in the world!

The four values of Kappa Delta are lifetime learning, personal integrity, altruistic service, and truth & loyalty.

Kappa Delta History

Kappa Delta was founded on October 23rd, 1897 at State Female Normal School, which is now Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. The four founders of KD are Lenora Ashmore Blakiston, Mary Sommerville Sparks Hendrick, Sara Turner White and Julia Gardiner Tyler Wilson. The four founders' friendship was what inspired them to "ignite generations of women to 'strive for that which is honorable, beautiful and highest."

Kappa Delta celebrates it's Founders Day on October 23rd! And this year, KD celebrates 125 years of their sorority!

What is Kappa Delta's Philanthropy?

KD's national philanthropy is Prevent Child Abuse America, and has been since 1981. Since then, over $26 million has been donated by Kappa Delta to prevent child abuse nationwide. One of the main philanthropic events chapters will host is a Shamrock event to help support Child Abuse America. Chapters can decide what specific event they will host, but they are all shamrock themed. Some popular events Kappa Delta chapters will hold include 5K races, tug-of-war, and lip sync battles. These events are held in an effort to strengthen families and help improve children’s lives. Kappa Delta aims to build children’s confidence and end abuse.

Kappa Delta has also partnered with the Girl Scouts of America since 1998. Chapters will host several day events to support their local Girl Scout troops. Chapter women help build girls’ confidence in themselves and do arts and crafts activities.
