All About Alpha Sigma Alpha

Alpha Sigma Alpha, also known as Alpha Sig is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). Alpha Sig places a strong emphasis on sisterhood, leadership, heritage and service. Alpha Sigma Alpha fosters friendships between its members. Alpha Sig inspires the women who are a part of its organization to make a difference in the world while also being leaders.

Alpha Sigma Alpha History

Alpha Sig was founded at the Female Normal School in Farmville, Virginia on November 15, 1901. Alpha Sig's founders were five women who had become very close friends during their time at the university. Each founder actually received invitations to the other sororities on campus, but they decided to create their own! Alpha Sigma Alpha stated in its original charter, "The purpose of the association shall be to cultivate friendship among its members, and in every way to create pure and elevating sentiments, to perform such deeds and to mold such opinions as will tend to elevate and ennoble womanhood in the world.”

Alpha Sigma Alpha celebrates it's Founder's Day on November 15th!

What is Alpha Sigma Alpha's Philanthropy?

Gamma Phi's national philanthropic partner is Girls on the Run which is pivotal in helping to Build Strong Girls. The group offers physical fitness, tutoring, mentoring, and support that empowers and teaches girls important life skills. It provides girls with many opportunities to be involved in their community. Girls on the Run hosts 5K races at elementary and middle schools for girls to participate in. Chapters will help by volunteering and supporting these races through their philanthropic initiatives.

Chapters across the nation will also host Moonball philanthropy events to raise awareness and donations for Girls on the Run. This event is usually a kickball, basketball, or volleyball event chapters will host to promote Building Strong Girls.
