All About Alpha Omicron Pi

Alpha Omicron Pi, also known as Alpha O or AOII is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). AOII prides itself on encouraging it's members to love one another. Their members are loyal to each other, themselves, their university and Alpha O as a whole. This organization works to promote character, dignity, scholarship and loyalty!

Alpha Omicron Pi History

Alpha Omicron Pi was founded at Barnard College in New York City. This college was one of the first in the nation that allowed females to receive the same education as men. The Barnard class of 1898 included four women who wanted to make a lasting legacy for themselves on campus. They made an organization based around their friendship, knowing that it would last a lifetime. On January 2nd 1897, Alpha Omicron Pi was formed!

Alpha Omicron Pi celebrates it's Founder's Day on January 2nd!

What is Alpha Omicron Pi's Philanthropy?

AOII's national philanthropy is the Arthritis Foundation and has been since 1967. Alpha O members host philanthropy events throughout the year to raise money for this foundation. They also raise awareness for arthritis and educate their peers on the disease. They provide their time volunteering at two major Arthritis Foundation events throughout the year, Walk to Cure Arthritis and Jingle Bell Run.

Many Alpha O chapters host signature philanthropy events each year, known as "Strike Out Arthritis!" events. These events feature baseball 5Ks, bowling or volleyball tournaments and raise funds for the Foundation.

AOII has over 209,000 initiated women throughout it's history. Making up this large number are 136 collegiate chapters and 156 alumnae Alpha Omicron Pi chapters nationwide.
